Celebratory Weekend

Saturday not only marked our eleventh wedding anniversary, but also my mom's birthday.  Knowing that we would be celebrating our anniversary on Saturday, I made plans to help my mom celebrate her birthday on Friday.  My mom spent the day at our house, playing with, feeding, and helping to bathe the twins.  In between, I treated her to lunch at Chili's, where Sue and Dakota joined us.  Sue and Dakota came back to our house after lunch so that they could play with the babies for a while.  Dakota was excited to see that the babies will now react to her silly faces and voices with smiles and laughter.  She did a wonderful job playing with her baby cousins!

On Saturday afternoon, we left the babies in the good care of Meme and Papa and made the short trip to Cedarburg for our first night away from our little ones.  We enjoyed a full night's rest at the Washington House Inn (I actually slept past 8 a.m.!), a delicious and romantic meal (ankle-biting gnats aside) at the Anvil Pub and Grille, and an equally scrumptious breakfast at Fiddlehead's this morning.  Feeling relaxed and rejuvenated, we returned home by noon today to relieve Meme and Papa of their duties.  We were happy to hear that the babies had posed few problems for their grandparents; they even slept through the night for them!  Of course, Will's diaper exploded with chocolate rain just minutes after they left (You could have spared us, Will!)!

After such a fun weekend, it is hard to see it come to an end!  We're going to have some serious cases of the Mondays tomorrow!

Will seemed more interested in his cousin's attempts to grab his attention; Maddie either had eyes only for Grandma or for her penguin mirror.
