Chugga Chugga Choo Choo

For some time now, we have promised Maddie and Will that we would take them on a train.  We pass the train station in our town on our frequent trips to the grocery store; I often point it out to them and tell them that they will go on their first train ride someday.

That "someday" was today!  This morning, we treated the twins to their first train ride.  We strategically chose a short, 30-minute train trip as the twins' first, and rode the train from the nearby city of Hengelo to the city of Deventer, home to the nearest Starbucks (A train ride for the kids + a mocha for Mama and a coffee for Daddy = A win for everyone).

As expected, Will, who is obsessed with all modes of transportation, loved every minute of the experience.  He was content to look out of the window of the train or simply sit and relax as the scenery rolled by.  His sister was a bit less impressed; Maddie seemed to lose interest in the train ride itself about 10 minutes into our trip, and preferred to read the books that we (thankfully) had brought with us.

This morning's outing was the perfect activity for this rainy, windy Saturday.  We just might have to make it a weekly tradition!

At Starbucks, Daddy and Will "split" a chocolate chip cookie.  Will ate about 75% of the cookie on his own and reluctantly shared the rest with Daddy.

Cookie Monster

Will repeatedly refused to give Daddy a bite of the cookie.

Finally, he agreed to share...but he wouldn't dare give up a grip of the cookie.

It may not appear so, but Maddie was a bit more willing to share her blueberry muffin with me than Will was ready to share his cookie with Daddy.

This girl loves her some blueberries!

As soon as the twins decided that they were done with their treats, they were off and running around the store.  We quickly asked for "take away" cups and left before they could do too much damage.

After a short wait, we were back on the train and headed back to our car.  Will seemed exhausted on the ride back, but he didn't dare close his eyes!
