We officially listed our home on July 16th with the hope to quickly sell and upgrade to a larger home with a finished basement in Sussex or Menomonee Falls. Initially, it seemed as though there was a lot of interest in the house. Between July 16th and September 24th, we hosted 13 private agent showings and 4 open houses. The shorewest.com listing received 1481 internet hits. Our house was featured on Shorewest TV over 28 times. Interest in the house has decreased, however, since mid-September. We have not received a request for a showing in two weeks (During the summer months, we were getting requests for showings every other day.).
While there was a good amount of interest in our house, none of the "interested" buyers seemed serious about buying a home. Two "interested" parties requested second showings of the house, giving us false hope that they would write an offer. Some of the people that requested showings of our house had not even listed their own homes yet, and were just "thinking" about moving.
For four long months, we had to keep our house "show" ready. Garbage cans and laundry baskets were stored in the basement. Picture frames and knick-knacks were packed away. Shelves and counters were clutter-free. I would bet that the house was cleaned more in the last four months than it has been in all of the years that we've lived in our house.
For four long months, we had to be prepared to leave the house with Bailey in tow for hours at a time. Bailey and I have taken quite a few long drives in the last few months (which would explain the hair-covered interior of my car). Bailey never seemed to mind those "car rides", but I could think of better uses of my time!
So, tomorrow it will be with great relief and joy that we reclaim our home and prepare to move forward with Plan B. In a few years, we might try to sell again. For now, we're staying put!
