Construction has officially begun on our basement! We have contracted Crosswind Homes to convert our cold, dark, and (until this past weekend) dirty basement into a finished lower level complete with a living room, a bar, a small office, and an exercise room.
With construction scheduled to begin this week, Jim and I had to commit a good part of this past weekend to emptying the basement of all of the furniture, boxes, and cobwebs that filled the space. Thanks to Mike's help, I was exempt from moving the larger, heavier items (which meant that Jim was spared the complaining that I would have surely done about moving such pieces). For the time being, most of our basement belongings are housed in our garage. At some point in the near future, however, we will need to purge of much of what now covers Jim's parking spot in the garage. Once the basement is finished, we will be left with very little storage space.
So far, construction is clipping along at an extremely quick pace! Our kitchen floors were covered to protect them on Monday. On Tuesday, lumber was delivered and our furnace was moved to make room for the basement bar. On Tuesday night, we met with our contractors and the cabinet designer to determine the layout of the countertops and cabinets. Today, we came home to find that the rooms and the bar have been framed out. Our contractor estimates that the job will be done in 3-4 weeks provided everything goes as planned (And let's hope that it does!). It may not be completely finished by Christmas, but it should definitely be ready for the Super Bowl!
