Preparing Bailey for Babies

Even though our Twinkies will soon be on their way, Bailey will always be our first baby - a very hairy, disgusting baby, but our first baby nonetheless.  It is important to us that we do what we can to prepare him for the transition from top dog to big brother.  It was with him in mind that I began to research ways to prepare furbabies for babies.  Among the suggestions that I stumbled upon was the recommendation to expose the dog to the sound of a baby's cry.

We gave it a go on one recent night, and were a little concerned at Bailey's reaction:

He tried to bite the keyboard!?!  We hope that it was an action stemming from pure curiosity rather than animosity.  Bailey hasn't spent a great deal of time around babies, and so may have been interested in the sound because it was fairly new.  Bailey has had a good share of experiences with toddlers, who, as you know, love to pull and hit.  He has been nothing but patient with such behavior.  That's a good sign...he may see a lot more pulling and hitting in his future (poor guy)!

Our next step is to borrow a doll (or two) to carry around the house as we will our own Twinkies.  Bailey probably will not take too kindly to that, but he'll have to get used to it.  We also plan on bringing home clothing/blankets with the babies' smells on them so that Bailey can sniff out his new siblings before a face-to-face meeting.

Big changes are coming Bailey's way!
