Project 365: Week Twenty-Nine

The twenty-ninth week of Project 365 came to a close on Monday, when we were trying to recuperate from an insanely busy weekend that was jam-packed with a first sleepover at Mimi and Papa's house for the twins, a stay at the Iron Horse Hotel for us, a baby shower, and a birthday gathering.  The weekend capped off a week that was just as busy with a trip to the library, a visit to a splash pad, and, of course, play at home and in the yard.  This week (Week 30) has been quiet in comparison, with few trips away from home and zero play dates.  As lovely as it has been to take it easy, it will be nice to see friends again next week; we need to take advantage of the time that they have left before they head back to school!

197/365:  We've Got to Do Something About That Hair

Whether it is a blessing or a curse, Maddie has inherited my curly hair, and along with that curly hair, the tendency for that curly hair to go wild.  Thanks to a combination of humidity, sweat, and sunscreen, she woke up from her nap on Tuesday morning with the unique look seen above.  After taking several pictures, I did my best to tame it before we left for the library.  

198/365:  Budding Bookworm

When we visited the library on Tuesday, the twins earned their prizes for completing their first reading challenge of the summer.  We came home with a bag filled with books to read to meet the second and final challenge by early August.  Motivated to earn their free board books, the twins read their library books on Wednesday afternoon.  Will is clearly still developing basic concepts of print (The book is upside down!).

199/365:  Flirt

On Thursday, we joined friends in cooling off at the splash pad in Kinderberg Park in Germantown.  Maddie was not too keen on splashing around in the water, and Will seemed more interested in roaming the area around the splash pad...and flirting with the pretty ladies in their swim attire.  When my friend Amy (who has twin boys) smiled at and said "Hello" to Will, he turned away and smiled in response before looking back for another smile and greeting from her.  Flirt.

200/365:  An Evening Out

After the twins were dropped off at Mimi and Papa's house for their very first sleepover there, Jim and I packed our bags for an overnight of our own.  We headed to The Iron Horse Hotel to celebrate our twelfth wedding anniversary with an amazing meal at Smythe followed by drinks, music, and conversation on the beautiful patio.  

201/365:  A Pair

Our anniversary celebration continued into Saturday morning, when we left The Iron Horse Hotel to take a short walk to The Third Ward for Bloodies and brunch at Cafe Benelux.  It was a beautiful morning to eat outside.   This pair of bicycles sat on the corner nearest to our table.

202/365:  Party Pooper

Maddie was literally and figuratively a Party Pooper during Chris' baby shower on Sunday morning.  She was a handful to say the least.  I spent part of the shower with her in the hallway outside of the party room.  I spent the rest of the shower wrestling her into compliance in the party room.

203/365:  A Man's Work Is Never Done

Though there wasn't much there to cut, Will used his new lawn mower to give the grass a bit of a trim on Monday afternoon.  His sister, meanwhile, relaxed in the shade of the play house, sipping water and eating yogurt melts.
