Meeting Mason

Mason Crosby, kicker for the Green Bay Packers, visited my classroom this afternoon to share a story with the children, sign autographs, and pose for pictures. A Summit View fifth-grader had won an appearance by Crosby through a contest sponsored by Cost Cutters (We joked that he had won the contest because his was the only entry!). Before speaking to the fifth grade classes, Crosby stopped in my classroom to visit with the winner's brother (one of my students) and his classmates.

When we first heard the news that we would be visited by a Packer, we all hoped for Donald Driver, Aaron Rodgers, or Mark Tauscher. We were somewhat disappointed to find out that it would be "Missin" Crosby that would make an appearance in our building. Yet, students and teachers enjoyed his visit today. He showed patience and kindness when interacting with the kindergartners. Crosby posed for numerous pictures with staff members and students, and signed a paper football for each of my kindergarten kids. As each child came forward with his or her football, Crosby acknowledged each child by asking what his or her name was and then complimenting the child in some way. Ava boasted to others after Crosby's visit that he had particularly liked her name, and Soumil couldn't have been any happier to hear Crosby's compliment on his new Packers outfit.

Crosby's future with the Green Bay Packers may be uncertain, but he surely won over some fans among students and teachers today!
