After resting up at our hotel following our tour of Harvard, Jim and I once again hopped aboard the T to travel to "America's Most Beloved Ballpark", Fenway Park. We followed hoards of Red Sox fans to arrive at the ballpark with several hours before game time so that we could secure a seat inside The Bleacher Bar, located inside Fenway Park and with a view of the field. While we were inside the bar, it began to rain and the tarp was rolled out onto the field. Crossing our fingers that the rain wouldn't last long, we decided to brave the raindrops and left the Bleacher Bar to scope out the streets around Fenway.
The rain didn't show any signs of letting up as we joined the masses of fans piling into the ballpark. We made a split-second decision to buy 2 overpriced Red Sox rain ponchos, hoping that we wouldn't need to use them.
As we gathered some pre-game shots of the stadium and field, the rain only began to come down harder and we were forced to don our sexy ponchos. The game still hadn't started when we headed for cover in the concourse. We passed the next 2 hours on our cell phones, eating ice cream and pistachios, and taking pictures. As the rain slowed, it was finally announced that the game would begin at 9:30 p.m.
We returned to our soaked seats and stayed until the sixth inning, when we were felt we had to leave to ensure that we didn't miss our train back to the financial district. I was a tad disappointed that I didn't get to participate in the singing of "Sweet Caroline" during the seventh inning stretch, but what are 'ya going to do? As it turns out, the game went into extra innings and didn't end until 2:00 a.m.!
Jim and I enjoyed our trip to Fenway. You can definitely feel and appreciate the long history of the park while there. A roof would have been nice, but then you would not have been able to see pictures of us in our attractive ponchos.
