Many people told us prior to our trip that the best way to see Boston is by way of The Freedom Trail, a 2.5 mile red-brick walking trail that leads you to several significant historic sites, including museums, churches, meeting houses, burying grounds, parks, a ship, and historic markers that tell the story of the American Revolution. Knowing that we would want to take our time and make stops along the way, we carved out time to explore the Trail in two parts. In the heat and sunshine of Sunday (Who knew that I would get a sunburn in Boston?), we decided to conquer the Trail from the Old State House to the USS Constitution.
This particular part of the Trail took us through Boston's Little Italy in the North End neighborhood, which we would return to for dinner and dessert that evening. Filled with so much history, beautiful architecture, and good food, the North End was easily my favorite area of Boston.
It took us a good part of the day to walk to the USS Constitution and back; our dogs were barkin' by the time we returned to our hotel! As we followed the trail, Jim mentioned that the only way that the experience could have been improved was if we heard George Michael's "Freedom" on a continuous loop. I took too many pictures to post, so I assembled a short slideshow of snapshots from our walk set to none other than George Michael's "Freedom" (Just for you, Jim!). Enjoy!
