Not only was Saona Island bug-free, but it was just plain beautiful. We spent some time in the water and relaxing on the beach. While we were laying under the palm trees, we noticed a dog digging in the sand. Where he was digging to, we don't know, but it was amusing to watch him pile the sand up near a growing hole. We assumed that the dog belonged to someone that worked on the island, as he looked to be well-nourished and cared for (unlike many of the other stray dogs roaming the streets and beaches in the area).
Disappointed as we were to leave Saona Island, we were ready to make the return trip back to our resort. It had been a long day. Before heading back to shore, however, we made a stop at a natural swimming pool to get out and swim with starfish.
Then, we made a quick, bumpy, and wet trip back to the shore aboard our speedboats. The trip that had taken an hour or more to make aboard the catamaran had taken just 30 minutes aboard the speedboats.
On our bus ride back to the Paradisus, we decided that we would stay at our resort for the rest of the week. There were parts of the tour that we truly enjoyed, but we did not appreciate the many bites or the need to abide by others' schedules.
