Last week, I noticed that Bailey had grown a bit thicker around his middle, and that his behind had grown wider, too. Most dogs probably gain weight during the winter months when it is too cold for routine walks. Bailey, however, is more susceptible to weight gain due to his lazy lifestyle and love of food.I would like to take him into the vet's office to be weighed, but my guess is that he is over 30 lbs. Our vet had once told us that at 31 lbs., Bailey was on the verge of becoming obese. His ideal weight is somewhere around 27 lbs.
So...Bailey is on a diet. He has been taken off all treats and table scraps. When we would like to give Bailey a treat, we give him a carrot instead. He doesn't seem to mind the carrots at all. In fact, he often stands up with his paws on the refrigerator, waiting for us to get a carrot for him.
If the weather would cooperate with us, Bailey and I will resume our routine after-school walks. We were able to get out three times this week. It's good for both of us!
